22:38 techrights_guest|24; Achi. Prior I had 2017 (ish) hardware and these machines, were boarderline with controls. The bios was unreal, and previous controls I had in earlier models, were removed. There are alot of choices still for hardware, It is my hope it will not flow downhill to the PC parts market. Still, if adopted creates yet another
22:57 techrights_guest|24; barrier. I work quite a bit with BSD, and I do not think I could tolerate a peice of hardware that does not allow the install of an OS of my choosing. People who love computing, do their own builds. People who need one to just get by, are on oems, so it makes sense for M$ to target oems, they arent the tech savy, and by just building in that
22:57 techrights_guest|24; one barrier, it creates high probablility those users would never make the jump to linux. ever. 23:25 phanes; we have sent millions of armed service members into battle with clear rules of engagement that they were able to respect even while /live mortar was being dropped on them/ and if those guys can do it so can the police

23:25 phanes; and if they can't do that
23:25 phanes; then maybe they're too much of a coward to be issued a firearm by the pd

23:26 DaemonFC; Nothing you say convinces the cop whether or not to issue a citation.
23:26 DaemonFC; He made up his mind when he started following you.
23:26 DaemonFC; You're either getting one or you're not. Unless you piss him off, but saying "I'm sorry but I cannot answer any questions at this time." is not a personal insult or anything.
23:28 DaemonFC; If a cop is being completely honest, they'll admit that nobody has ever talked their way out of an arrest or a citation.
23:28 DaemonFC; They have talked their way into one or into a jail cell.
23:28 DaemonFC; There are factors inside and outside your control. If they are going to cite/arrest, they'll do that. Arming them with more information to hand to the prosecutor makes it worse.
23:29 DaemonFC; The longer you talk, the more likely it is you'll tell them something they don't know. Or confirm something they suspected, and can now prove.
23:30 DaemonFC; There is now zero chance you'll ever get it dismissed in court.
23:30 DaemonFC; That's why they ask if you know why they pulled you over.
23:30 DaemonFC; "I was speeding."
23:30 DaemonFC; Cop: "He said he was speeding. He admitted it. What are we even doing here?"
23:30 DaemonFC; Judge: "GUILTY!"
23:32 DaemonFC; Most people can't keep their mouth shut.
23:32 DaemonFC; The cops know that.
23:32 DaemonFC; They use it.
23:32 DaemonFC; The guilty try to explain their way out of it and can't keep their story straight, or they feel bad about something and they just flat out admit it.
23:33 DaemonFC; The people who are not guilty talk, and they get steered into making incriminating statements by a cop who wants to go home and eat dinner.
23:33 DaemonFC; Only a few people don't say anything at all.
23:34 DaemonFC; In the US system, the cop can't get on the stand and try to imply that not talking to them means you're hiding something. The judge won't allow it.

23:44 DaemonFC; If you tell the cop "I was adjusting my radio and didn't see the other car." then you've admitted to a crime.
23:44 DaemonFC; Adjusting the radio is "being distracted by an electronic device".
23:45 DaemonFC; They can't prove you were adjusting the radio at the time of the accident.
23:45 DaemonFC; Unless you tell them that's what you were doing.
23:46 DaemonFC; When I was a young driver, something came on the radio I didn't like, and I looked over to adjust the knob and crashed into the back of a semi truck.
23:46 DaemonFC; The trucking company filed bankruptcy the next day and so there wasn't a trucking company anymore to complain that I hit their truck.
23:47 DaemonFC; And the driver never complained or filed a claim because he got shit canned and it was a truck belonging to a liquidated company that was in bankruptcy court anyway.
23:47 MinceR; you crashed them right into bankruptcy?
23:47 DaemonFC; I just happened to crash into their company truck the day before they filed for bankruptcy.
23:48 DaemonFC; So the police went to investigate the accident and there was suddenly nobody complaining about me.
23:48 DaemonFC; That was like 2001 I think.
23:49 DaemonFC; I was pretty pissed that I needed a new hood, but the insurance company never heard about that, and the court couldn't make the ticket stick because the cop didn't write down the driver's name and then the 800 number he gave them was dead and there was no company to tell them who was driving the truck.
23:50 DaemonFC; The ticket had the trucking company's name and 800 number on it under the victim information section.
23:51 DaemonFC; So I went to traffic court and nobody else came and I pleaded not guilty and the prosecutor dismissed the ticket.
23:51 DaemonFC; I've had warnings and dismissed tickets.
23:51 DaemonFC; But I've never had one stick.
23:52 DaemonFC; Except for a seatbelt violation, but that was $15 an in Indiana law, that's a non-moving violation.
23:52 DaemonFC; So the insurance company can't do anything with it.
23:52 DaemonFC; I had some unpaid parking tickets, but those were campus police and I wasn't a student there, so they had nothing to hold over me if I didn't pay them.
23:53 DaemonFC; They never tell you the only thing they can do if you don't pay is withhold your transcripts if you're a student there.
23:53 DaemonFC; So I dropped them a note in the mail that said "Not a student. :)"
23:54 DaemonFC; They wanted like $70 per ticket (2003) and I had three of them by that time.
23:54 DaemonFC; I got a parking ticket once.
23:54 DaemonFC; I parked in a two hour spot for 8 months before anyone noticed.
23:55 DaemonFC; I was renting an apartment that didn't have dedicated parking, and it was attached to a bank.
23:55 DaemonFC; So I just parked it in a two hour spot intended for the bank.
23:55 DaemonFC; 8 months later, the city noticed and wrote me a parking ticket for $5 because that's how things were in small towns in Indiana back then.
23:55 DaemonFC; So I paid the ticket at the town hall.
23:56 DaemonFC; For the next 4 months, I parked my car in an abandoned cafe's parking lot until I got a note asking me not to park there anymore.
23:57 DaemonFC; So at that point, I started parking my car at a city lot.
23:58 DaemonFC; They had one that was $5 a month, so I paid it, and then I scanned it into my computer and changed the expiration date and kept printing one out with a new month on it and sticking it on my dashboard.
23:58 DaemonFC; The police never figured it out.
23:59 DaemonFC; Instead of using parking garages, I usually just leave the car at a busy supermarket or Walmart store for the day.
23:59 DaemonFC; That way they think I'm just in thee shopping.
