I started a gemlog for confusing Spanish concepts — [gemini link] As I come across Spanish topics that stump me, I will make little write-ups. These are mainly notes for me and my partner, but maybe they will help someone. There are many terrible long-winded and ever-more confusing explanations on youtube. I will try to keep it short, a paragraph or two if possible, for each topic.

Random stupidity — I like to tinker with things. A few months ago I had decided to rebuild most of my system with -Ofast to see what would break. (If anyone's interested, very little breaks right away, but you get a lot of subtle bugs and crashes that show up apparently at random.) Well, I rebuilt *almost* everything with sane CFLAGS, but I missed the qtdeclarative package. I just spent hours trying to analyze why Lagrange kept crashing on my machine whenever I enabled or disabled a certificate...

@gritty When I open the "Play Farkle" / proceed to app link (/farkle/app), it has started responding with status 10 so I get an input prompt. A bug? The game works normally after submitting empty text in that initial query.

How to provide configurable keyboard shortcuts to users of my application? — I'm writing a desktop app that provides configurable keyboard shortcuts. For now these are set up by writing key sequences to a file. Of course, something that sounds straightforward stops being so as soon as you get past the surface. I am now trying to figure out what's more "intuitive" (if such thing even exists) when you're trying to serialize a sequence of keystrokes to text. For example, let's say you have a US...

No outline on any tui for Gemini — I miss outline function when I browse Gemini capsules from any tui client (amfora, bombadillo, telescope...)

It would be nice if we could edit our Address Book, within the hashnix.club misfin service.

No puedo culparlos. ¿Quién quiere hablar con un adulto que habla como un niño de cinco años, pero más despacio? La escritura es mucho más fácil. Tienes todo...

I find it interesting that people wrote bots to harvest their plants for the next generation. I was refreshing the leaderboard and watched the generations increase. at that point, the three harvesting screens are the limiting time factor to go up a generation. meanwhile I'm thinking two days is too fast.

Guanciale & Ewe's Cheese Pappardelle — This is kind of a spin on a Slovak dish I particularly like. It takes about 10 minutes to prepare. This is a spin on a Slovak dish I particularly like, with hints taken from making Carbonara. The original Slovak dish calls for Bryndza (1), but I couldn't get that here, so I used a crumbly ewe's cheese from the Eastern European shop. I managed to get some guanciale (2) from a local butcher. It's really lovely: it's unsmoked, but cured with some beautiful...

Lagrange losing some old history entries? — I am under the impression that Lagrane loses some history entries after a while. It feels some URLs are marked as unvisited, even though I'm pretty sure I visited them, because in some places I always visit all the URLs. I am not a hundred percent certain, because a link to `example.com/` is not considered the same as `example.com/index.gmi` by Lagrange. If I encounter a non-visited link Im certain I've already visited, it's on another page linking to...

Computadoras Antiguas — ¡Hola amigos! Estaba pensando en los viejos tiempos de la computación. Sé muy poco sobre las computadoras de los paises hispanohablantes! Sé que Commodore era popular en España, pero no estoy seguro. Respecto a América Latina -- nada...

May 2024, status report — It's been very quiet here... I've been traveling a bit and in spite of weeks of neglect, the game seems to be running all by itself. That is how software should work, don't you think? Looking at missing word submissions (in-game enter dot followed by a word you think should be included)... A handful of words were sent: CUVETTE, RIMY,RIMIER,RIMIEST,VAGAL, SOLIDUS, BUMBLEBEE, BEZEL, GAMEY, GABBY,GABBIER,GABBIEST. Thank you for your submissions -- I do get to them...

I found a case where the current rendering style does make the page not easily readable. It has to do with preformated text and a large table renderd in text. The page in question: [gemini link]

Fumble Around Discussion — Hey BBS, I was inspired to write a gemini discovery service today, and figured I'd start a discussion thread on it here. Any and all feedback is welcome 🙏 (I know that at the moment the user is liable to get repeated pages; I seeded the dataset with about 40 pages that I know of, some obvious, like BBS itself, and others less so. Everyone is welcome to add any other pages they know of now or come...

Gemini over LoRaWAN? — I'm fascinated by the idea of running a smolweb over LoRaWAN. Imagine a decentralized network of FLOSS-hardware devices, solar-powered, each running a gemini capsule and a relay (HAM radio style) to transmit data on to other points on the LoRaWAN mesh network. It's not a fast way to communicate, but smolweb gemini doesn't need to be. If LoRaWAN can reach 56.6kbps, it'd feel like the days of dialup, but... decentralized, solar-powered, and resistant to censorship. Has...

Hell On Earth #12 — Queens, NY, 2024 The whole thing is terrifying. I don't know what is more scary -- the tower full of cashed-up bogans, or the Archie Bunker sprawl below.
