As I have mentioned earlier I run the Garden Gnome Society, which is a capsule dedicated to tracking the health of plants in Astrobotany.
As of today the Garden Gnome Society will feature a Plant of the Day each day.
The capsule is regenerated by a fairly ugly bash script four times a day. Previously I had no reason to save a state of any type between regeneration. That's why this feature has been so long in the making 😅️
> How can I have my plant featured as plant of the day?
Good question, dear reader!
Each time a new garden report is compiled the script goes through all the plants in the garden[1] and makes four lists:
Wilting plants
Dry plants (those with 0% water)
Dead plants
All the rest
The first report compiled on a new day (a little after midnight, UTC) picks a random plant from the last category. Make sure your plant is watered by that time and it may be featured next!
There is a small chance that the same plant as yesterday is picked. I consider that a charming perk.
[1] Except mine, because I'm logged in as my user and therefore /app/visit/7076a452b1f24a5b96e7868aa42aa7b1 redirects to /app/plant, and I don't follow redirects.
