< Happy National Video Game Day

My absolute favorite game of all time is Outer Wilds, and it's in no small part due to the soundtrack. I didn't think I'd ever consider a banjo the appropriate instrument for a game set in space, but its twangy intimacy really does underscore our place in the vast universe.

And then the DLC came out. Have you ever heard a theremin cry?

The rest of this comment is dedicated to encouraging anyone interested in a space archaeology game to play Outer Wilds. The only progression in the game is what you learn, and when you learn everything in the game you can beat it in under 20 minutes. For this reason, I can never re-experience it for the first time again, so I try to live vicariously and get other people to play it. Go in blind, don't do any research ahead of time.

Yooo, this game seems so epic! Def got that no man's sky vibe to it, but so much more, and it seems like a lot to build off of too. The soundtrack, alone, is so ambient and deep. It gives it all a really eerie atmosphere, like an excitement but with daunting undertones.

Thanks for the recommendation. Hope I can give this a go sometime when I can.

I'll check that out. I dig the imagery of space mixed with the wild west, the space cowboy. Seems interesting too, the music combo of space sci-fi and spaghetti western.

Gives me flashbacks of the TV show theme to Hitchhikers Guide also instances of Space rock that use western guitars in the background of cosmologic synth ambience.

The way the gameplay is framed sounds fun to lurk around and see what's there to find, which I feel like a lot of games these days miss the mark of. Stuff like Journey or No Man's Sky seemed to either embrace that approach or totally flub it up but it doesn't seem like one often taken, at least w.o the game tryna steer you in some way. |

Thanks for the rec, I'll give it a try. I'll report back once I check out the soundtrack too. Love me VG OST's.
