Hey folks, hope everyone is well.

Thought I'd put up a little introduction.

I love science fiction. Started actually reading books with Dune, and progress has been slow and steady. I've read 4 Dune books so far, the first one and God Emperor being my favorites. Next on my reading list is "A Canticle for Leibowitz" by Walter M. Miller, Jr.

I like pubnixes, gemini, mastodon and all that jazz. I'm not very active, but I love these little spaces people put up and want to find more and more of them :D

I like low-level programming. Lately I've been exploring emulation (NES) and graphics (raytracing), learning Go and Verilog.

Slow and steady, doing stuff, making mistakes, dumb decisions, reading at night, keeping quiet.

Ah, ~lzrd, if "magic realism" is also an option, try "Chac Mool" or "Terra Nostra" by Carlos Fuentes.

Have you ever read something from Gene Wolfe? He is my favorite author, it mixes sci-fi with fantasy but it's really great. Not a light read, though, he writes with rereading in mind.

I am also a fan of science fiction, though these days I read mostly nonfiction. I recently read Roadside picnic by the Strugatsky brothers, and watched the film adaptation, Stalker, by Tarkovski. I also read the futurology congress, by Stanisav Lem, which is also adapted to film, I like the film a lot, but the book is (as is usual) a lot better in my opinion. I want to read We as well, I did start reading it once but didn't continue.

I never read past the first Dune novel, but having watched the new film, I'm thinking of picking it back up. I loved the new films, but in my heart always plays the musical score from the older one by Lynch.

It's early, so perhaps some English Breakfast tea for me. Thank you ~bartender!

Oh yeah I also only read the first Foundation, I should keep that up, too!

I read Asimov's Foundation series back in the day and "We" by Yevgeny Zamyatin [1921] recently. The latter was a very foundational book for 20th century dystopian sci fi. I also read 'Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency' last month though I am not sure if that would be proper sci fi but Douglas Adams did contribute to the overall genre with his other more famous books.

I have heard praise for "Dune" but haven't read it nor seen it's adaptations[ there was a movie right?]. I think two of my favorite sci fi films are Dark City [released same year as Matrix, I guess, though not as famous] and Fritz Lang's epic Metropolis from 1927.
