Album #151: Funeral

By Arcade Fire (2004).

Funeral on 1001albumsgenerator

As soon as I checked the site and saw this was the album for the day, I knew it would be a 5-star. It's one of the rare times I felt like an album I immediately clicked felt so universally loved by the public and the press. There's not a bad song on it, and even traits that often put me off just work here. Just reading the list of instruments on the album lets you know it's going to be a *big* sound for an indie band, but instead of feeling overwhelming it sounds.. exciting? Energising?

It would be hypocritical of me not to think back to the title of the book though. Albums you must hear before you die. I do it for the albums I don't care for, what about the albums I come in knowing I like? Even if the name of the album would make for a lame newspaper music review wrap up, it doesn't feel *essential*, even if I really like it. One of the best albums of the 2000s? I can get on board with that. The only Arcade Fire album worth your time? Absolutely.
