Album #148: White Blood Cells

By The White Stripes (2001)

White Blood Cells on 1001albumsgenerator

Back when this came out, it was *everywhere*, which a younger me reacted to by ignoring it as far as possible. The best defence I can come up with is that it really makes a difference to how I listen to an album, and the expectations i have going in. But that's just a way of justifying dumb behaviour.

These songs sound perfect for a small venue. It would have been amazing to hear them live, up close. The sound is not too produced, but excellently executed. Checking setlist.fm for the venue sizes at the time, this was probably the prime time to see them.

It does tail off a bit towards the end, and "Aluminium" is a very skippable song. Overall, this is another great part about this whole project - sitting down with albums I'd previously ignored has turned up some nice realisations. Nice is the right word - it's not exactly a revelation to say "The White Stripes: they're alright, aren't they?".
