Discussion forums, microblogging, and Git issue tracking for the Gemini community. You only need a Gemini client to participate. Welcome!
Pascal and files. β I am looking for a guide to use text files in freepascal. I am looking to make a gemtext to html tool because it sounds like a good project. The link conversation is going to be a challenge but I am looking forward to it.
Got CGISESH working. Simple demo. β Click on the link; the cgi will keep track of how many times you visit (refresh to see the counter go up). If my cgisesh server is running, of course. This simple cgi uses cgisesh to keep session information for each user (visit count in this simple example). cgisesh is a minimal in-memory key-value server designed to provide per-user session data for Gemini CGI scripts. There...
I notice Lagrange has a line-space modifer in the preferences menu. Is there a keyboard short cut one can use to toggle it on and off? It seems very useful on paragraphs, and much less useful for everything else. Accessing it from the menu is cumbersome. I would prefer to access it tactically, rather than have it be a permanent setting.
Just exploring going back to cassette tapes as a useful medium. Never thought I'd be doing that having been at the tail end of the 8-track till today's streaming but I want to own my music again and I like the ease of use and low expense of it. Anyone else looked back at the cassette?
Feature request: Could the list of subspaces include more information? I'd like to know how many posts total, how many in the past [time interval] and when the last post was. It would be nice to be able to sort based on most active, however that's calculated. The list is getting quite long and it's hard to know where to look for activity.
RK3399 SBC as OpenBSD Desktop? So Iβve read the excellent article from exotic silicon dot com, the instructions they give seems easy enough to follow. Anyone tried any of the RK3399 boards with OpenBSD? Building your own BL31 (this is the dreaded ARM trusted firmware) from source is damn interesting, I bet they will never ever let you do that for snapdragon or Apple Mx. Anyone tried Tow-Boot on one of these boards? How about root on nvme drive? I guess for a desktop, all I βreallyβ need is...
Just another PSA reminder that you can send any BBS post to DSN Antenna via BBS' built-in feature (located under 'more...'). DSN is for non-computer related transmissions.
cgisesh - a tiny cgi session manager for games TLDR: I am making a minimal in-memory "session database server" for keeping track of user data, ideal for games. Any thoughts? Every time I try to make a quick-and dirty CGI game or sketch out a simple application, I get really frustrated. Gemini conviniently provides user certificates which can be used to track sessions, but things get complicated very fast. I am making a minimal subsystem for keeping track of user-associated data, ideal for...
CW - Morse Code β Someone I think over on The Station shared this with me and it's just fun. It's Wordel but a CW test to see how fast you can copy. It starts at like 40WPM and each replay and you only get like 20 of them slows down and you still have 5 guesses. MORSEL.FUN 100% give it a shot it's fun.
new Lit Up on Linux episode on aNONradio β Hey all :D In case anyone's interested, check out the new Lit Up on Linux episode I have in store for the next hour, 0000 UTC every Thursday. I've been away for a couple weeks but now I got a boomin playlist set for the return back. Listen in and if you're an SDF member join in on the COMmode chat. Cheers. stream link: [http link]
deceptive design and dark patterns
Ahoy! β Greetings and salutations. Like many of you, I have become somewhat disillutioned with the modern web (grumble, grumble). The Gemini community warms me to my very cockles, and I'm excited to make the leap from lurking to participating.
I dont' remember if I ever posted my list of links to helpful Palm sites here, but either way I updated it recently with a lot of new links (including a lot of Japanese sites) so have at it Gemini folks! [gemini link]
I'm someone who has had "get into ham radio" on my list for a while, but various stuff in life has distracted me from taking the test and getting any equipment just yet. So in the meantime...I want to hear what y'all actually DO. Tell me what your typical interactions with ham radio looks like! What fun stuff can I do, what does the reality of it look like, how can I enjoy radios? Because my plan has always been get the license then figure this part out but...seems like I should really have...
Did station.martinrue.com change it's cert. How does one tell when this is a valid change.
quallcom snapdragon x elite mainlining β thats the chipset in lenovo yoga c 630, lenovo flex 5g, lenovo thinkpad x13s.
How sucky is OpenBSD installation for the first time? I managed to boot up my old laptop (An 1.8ghz Acer from 2008-ish?), and I thought Iβd give OpenBSD a crack on it. What do I need to be looking out for, coming from a MacOS / Linux background?
Well, it's nice as a Telnet BBS operator to see the BBS living on here in Gemini Space. Hoping to find some more news about old Gemini projects like the Turn by Turn directions capsule that existed, Ham radio capsules, and just plain old tinkering.
Why choose a v3 X.509 certificate for your capsule (and your website too) β X.509 is the standard format of public key certificates which are used, among other uses, in TLS. The format has 3 versions, each one adding functionality that the previous one lacked. While the most popular library for processing these certificates, OpenSSL, supports all versions, this is starting to not be the case anymore for other libraries. In 2022, when I first heard about Gemini, I decided to write a client for...
OpenBSD Gaming β Repost of a link I found on Cosmos. If you do/want to game on OpenBSD give it a look.
Hah, achieved my lowest score ever today. 1700
I sent a photo of my cat 630 miles over the air β We used VarAC to transfer an 8kb image over the 20-meter band from Portland, OR to Salt Lake City, UT. My antenna is an inverted-vee dipole resonant at 14.1 MHz. It shares a feed point with a 10-meter inverted vee. The transfer took just under an hour. Given my antenna's thin, low-quality wire elements and the thunderstorm over the receiving station, I'm impressed that we were able to complete the transfer at all. I was transmitting at 45 Watts,...
What Gemini search engine do you use?
Nons: FOODBALL BARFLOOD ROADBLOOD BALLDOLOR BRABOOB FOODBARF
My intermittent capsule outages are being caused by what appears to be a very aggressive crawler. The capsule's robots.txt file tells bots not to index my CGI scripts, but this crawler is ignoring the file and sending multiple requests per second against my scripts, which overloads the server and causes it to crash. I've temporarily solved the problem by blocking the crawler entirely; I'll look for a more permanent solution.
