In the end, everysthing turned out fine

In the end, everysthing turned out fine

> After a good, but exhausting day i need a little break, i direct my steps int he direction of the always open pub and as i enter it i see all the regulars and suddenly i realise that i haven't visited it for well over a month. Nodding to one or another table i head for the bar... "Bartender, may i have a Gin?"

Pinball and the Pursuit of Happiness...or Peace at 50 Cents a Play

> Out of the blue I've developed an abundant love and appreciation for pinball.

> Walking the waterfront a few months back, it finally dawned on me after who knows how many times that the large yellow cheese wedge on the side of one of the buildings, was in fact...

Sunrise Photos, UAF East: Fairbanks, AK, USA: 2024-04-22

> I was blessed this morning with an opportunity to watch the sunrise this morning, for about the first 45 minutes after 5am AKDT. The cloud cover was ideal — not too thick but not too thin. I used a parking lot on the east side of the UAF hill. Unfortunately, there are some hills to east and northeast blocking the horizon, but there aren't many ideal locations to chose from in Fairbanks. I think this photo best captures the experience:

Google's contract with Israel's military

Google's contract with Israel's military

> Hmm I really kind of hate to do another political post but just felt I had to comment on the recent story about Google firing some of their protesting workers. I think 9 activist workers were fired for protesting Google's contract with Israel's military.

> There are 2 takeaways about this situation that I want to share.

> The first is that if you as a company are consistently hiring politically active employees, don't be surprised when they become extremely politically active. Being politically active means that they won't just write emails and sign petitions, they will stage sit-ins and protests. And unlike previous generations, they will be active not just in the streets or on their off time...but they will do it at work where they get paid!

Gonna bomb this midterm (double meaning)

Gonna bomb this midterm (double meaning)

> Hello hey yes hi hello. I woke up at like 5am despite sleeping at 1am, I could have slept more but the drive to college on empty streets is very comfortable so I wanted to salvage the opportunity.

> Anyways, I have a midterm in like two hours from now, I studied, and that's all I can really say I did.

> These couple two week have been pure garbage honestly, uncalled for delays and changes led to me rearranging my calendar's events more than actually prepare for these events.

Offline PSP Media Player

> Today I spent some time setting up my Sony PSP to play UMD isos and mp3s on a second 32GiB SD card.

> I have PSOne and PSP games on another 32GiB card, and am waiting for a new 64GiB card to come sometime this week to combine them.

2024 Week 15/16: Thoughts and Photos

2024 Week 15/16: Thoughts and Photos

> For the moment I have given up on my plans to use OpenBSD on my ThinkPad. I don't want to use a heavy server like Syncthing on it to synchronize files; I'd rather use asynchronous tools like git or NNCP, and NNCP is my current tool of choice. Unfortunately, I simply cannot get Go to compile statically-linked versions of the NNCP binaries on OpenBSD 7.5, so I'd be stuck on 7.4 or lower. If I can figure out how to fix that problem, or if NNCP releases an update to fix it, I might switch back. In th meantime, I'm still deciding which OS to use.

> I wish it was easier to interact with resources on the mainline internet entirely through a command line. That's why I use Gemini (and Gopher) so much.

A smol.earth update on Earth day

A smol.earth update on Earth day

> It's Earth day again. No rant from me this year, but it seems timely to give an update on smol.earth.

> The first concrete sub-project under this ambitious umbrella label was/is the Smol Earth Compendium, which I announced last September. Uptake was very close to zero (but not quite and I'm grateful to those two people who responded in any way whatsoever). That's a shame, but I'm not super-duper cut up about it because I always intended to do bigger and better things under the same label anyway, and if any of those took off it would probably naturally draw some attention back to ye olde Compendium. I am kind of hoping to set up a few thematically-related but only loosely-coupled projects which will mutually reinforce one another in organic and unpredictable ways over the years.
