00:00 bnchs; in case you don't agree with their EULA
00:00 kingoffrance; MinceR, whats the difference between a "state" and "nation" and "people" ? it just reads "abolish all people"

00:00 XRevan86; MinceR: Biely-Siniy-Biely and Biely-Chervony-Biely
00:01 MinceR; :)
00:01 MinceR; kingoffrance: state is an organization for the oppression of people; nation is an excuse to unite a bunch of people to make them gang up on another bunch of people for the benefit of the former group's oppressors
00:01 MinceR; kingoffrance: people is the plural of person
00:01 HMS; don't agree with any their EULA i just press next
00:02 kingoffrance; sure, so how does abolish "states" or "nations" get rid of that? people will just do that again
00:02 kingoffrance; as they did the first time
00:02 kingoffrance; it is just a change of people, nothing more
00:02 kingoffrance; *change of oppressors
00:03 MinceR; people will need to stop believing that it is right for some people to own/rule other people
00:03 MinceR; that notion has to go
00:03 kingoffrance; there goes parenthood
00:03 MinceR; do parents own someone?
00:03 kingoffrance; who is responsible for children?
00:03 MinceR; if that is what parenthood means, then yes, parenthood needs to go too
00:03 MinceR; it's shared responsibility
00:03 XRevan86; MinceR: That's a bit of an overkill.
00:03 kingoffrance; oh, so shared ownership
00:03 MinceR; no, that's not ownership
00:04 kingoffrance; because its shared?
00:04 MinceR; the only one who should own a particular person is that person
00:04 HMS; shared responsibility
00:04 kingoffrance; so where is the line between own and responsibility?
00:04 HMS; that what MinceR typed
00:04 kingoffrance; yes, and its nonsense
00:04 kingoffrance; responsibility is based on ownership
00:05 MinceR; it's a pretty thick line
00:05 MinceR; no, it is not
00:05 kingoffrance; oh really?
00:05 XRevan86; I for one would rather focus on dictators than on parenthood.
00:06 MinceR; so would i
00:06 MinceR; but kingoffrance wants to sire children and own them
00:06 kingoffrance; "the only one who should own a particular person is that person" so i pop out 20 kids and they all grow up murderers. where is the responsiblity here? who is resposnible?
00:06 DaemonFC; One way to play through Fallout games is by making your character really stupid. It frees up points to use on other attributes and leads to funny dialog.
00:06 MinceR; being responsible for the wellbeing of your kids is not the same as being entitled to tell your kids what to do 24/7, until they die
00:07 kingoffrance; noone claimed that
00:07 XRevan86; Dictators. Parents. Fallout.
00:07 kingoffrance; lol
00:07 MinceR; that's what owning people means
00:07 kingoffrance; thats what you caricature means
00:07 MinceR; it's slavery
00:07 DaemonFC; MinceR, I see Orban's party got two-thirds of the seats with about half the vote.
00:07 HMS; better lucky then smart
00:07 DaemonFC; Democracy!
00:07 MinceR; but yeah, i know that slavery is "hip" and "cool" and "modern" and "edgy" and "based" now
00:07 DaemonFC; I'd recognize it anywhere!
00:07 XRevan86; DaemonFC: Oh, did they learn from Russia?
00:08 MinceR; DaemonFC: yeah, they wrote the rules so it does that
00:08 DaemonFC; Or Indiana.
00:08 kingoffrance; if responsibility is not based on ownership, then how is responsibility distributed?
00:08 XRevan86; MinceR: So, I have a question :)
00:08 MinceR; DaemonFC: last time they got 2/3 of the seats with something like 48.5% of the votes
00:08 MinceR; so they didn't even have a majority and their rules turned it into a supermajority
00:08 DaemonFC; Well, they set a 5% threshold to get any seats at all.
00:08 kingoffrance; your scheme has implicit "someone owns everything and allocates responsibility"
00:08 MinceR; kingoffrance: typically both parents and the child itself would be responsible for the child
00:09 kingoffrance; but thats not ownership?
00:09 DaemonFC; So a bunch of minor parties can come along ang get tens of thousands of votes and no seats.
00:09 MinceR; no, my scheme has implicit "everyone owns themselves"
00:09 DaemonFC; That helps a bit.
00:09 MinceR; s/im/ex/
00:09 XRevan86; MinceR: Does Hungary have a system where when a small party doesn't have enough of a percentage their percentage will be shared between the passing parties relative to their percentages?
00:09 MinceR; XRevan86: something like that
00:09 XRevan86; MinceR: Learnt from the best.
00:09 MinceR; this percentage threshold bullshit seems to be popular
00:10 kingoffrance; lets ask this then: do people own what they create?
00:10 DaemonFC; Oh it's even better in some US states.
00:10 XRevan86; That's one of the mechanisms that United Russia used to dominate.
00:10 kingoffrance; because its either parents made a child or "god" did
00:10 DaemonFC; To maintain ballot access, you have to get enough votes in the previous election.
00:10 DaemonFC; Or your party reverts to "write in" candidates.
00:10 MinceR; kingoffrance: reproduction is not creation
00:10 MinceR; kingoffrance: seriously, it's not a challenging thing to do
00:10 XRevan86; MinceR: I predict Hungary a great future if it ever decides to secede.
00:10 MinceR; even bacteria can do it
00:10 MinceR; hell, even fideath voters can do it
00:11 DaemonFC; The illusion that someone who isn't a Democrat or Republican could win is important.
00:11 MinceR; XRevan86: i don't see much of a future for hungary
00:11 kingoffrance; sure, we are estabilish title/ownership -- so "God" owns everything in your system, only they can "create" anything
00:11 XRevan86; MinceR: A special military operation to de-Nazi-fy Finland maybe.
00:11 MinceR; especially if orban keeps supporting putler
00:11 DaemonFC; It lets them say you have options and third party candidates just lose because nobody likes them.

00:12 DaemonFC; Lisa Murkowski was the first Senator to win a seat in a write in campaign in almost a century after the Republicans rigged the system to primary her.
00:12 MinceR; people can be owned by themselves and nobody else
00:12 MinceR; PII can be owned the people it's about
00:12 kingoffrance; ok, what rights do people have? and are those property they own or not?
00:12 MinceR; other information can't be owned
00:12 kingoffrance; since there is no state, who allocates "rights"
00:12 DaemonFC; Then instead of taking revenge by just declaring she was an Independent Senator and refusing to vote them into the majority, she acted like nothing had happened and rejoined them.
00:12 MinceR; you don't need a state to have rights
00:13 kingoffrance; sure, but didnt answer my question
00:13 MinceR; this has been discussed to great depth already
00:13 MinceR; i can't give you an exhaustive list of human rights
00:13 kingoffrance; ok, so a gang of oppressors decided what "rights" people have, same as prior system, but this one is not a "state"
00:13 DaemonFC; MinceR, I'd just become an Independent Senator and refuse to vote for Leadership for the rest of the time I was in there.
00:13 kingoffrance; its just bait and switch word games
00:14 MinceR; kingoffrance: pretty sure it was not a gang of oppressors
00:14 kingoffrance; theres no state, so who decides who is an "oppressor" or not?
00:14 DaemonFC; They don't want her there because she votes for the Democrat bills about 40% of the time.
00:14 MinceR; how would having a state help decide that anyway?
00:15 DaemonFC; The state has to pass laws saying what you can do.
00:15 kingoffrance; it just sounds like a theocracy. only "god" can create things (but we wont call it "god"). some random group of random people decide what rights you have, but you cant see them
00:15 DaemonFC; That way you have rights.
00:15 DaemonFC; How would you have those rights if there wasn't anything stopping you in the first place?
00:15 DaemonFC; For God's sake, get some perspective, man.
00:16 MinceR; kingoffrance: you're the one going on about "god"
00:16 DaemonFC; We need the state to give us rights it took away to begin with.
00:16 kingoffrance; MinceR, youre the one who said people cannot create anything

04:29 matey; on this front
04:30 matey; and change.org is a joke imo
04:31 matey; someone should do am investigation of how much it has actually changed
04:31 frog; Many sites are joining to Clown cafe each day and it reached 22,000,000 last week

04:32 frog; (as base domains)
04:32 matey; clownworld... wide web
04:32 frog; this is about 10% of total ICANN-registered domains
04:32 matey; wow
04:32 matey; nice stat
04:32 matey; "the github of the web"
04:32 matey; "the github of websites"
04:33 matey; github is like this too... id say more than half of free software is there now
04:33 frog; we usually push the list to above archive but the secondary git is down (probably ddos)
04:33 frog; so no cake tomorrow
04:33 matey; is the code there?
04:33 frog; yup
04:33 frog; aaand its down lol
04:33 matey; nice, bnchs was looking for it
04:33 frog; can't contact the maintainer anyway since about 3 or 4 days ago.
04:34 frog; hope he's ok
04:34 matey; maybe clownflare thugs are talking to him in a basement
04:34 frog; or maybe in conflict with ukr war
04:34 matey; that would suck
04:35 frog; he's in europe so that might a possibility
04:35 matey; even if hes fine, the downtime could TECHNICALLY be related
04:35 frog; ddos happens anytime
04:35 matey; indeed
04:36 matey; slitaz was ddosed for months
04:36 matey; so they moved to github
04:36 matey; then they left again
04:36 matey; more recently puppylinux.com was taken down (from github) because it was being ddosed
04:37 matey; so github wont protect you from ddosing, if anything theyll knock you offline for it
04:37 frog; self-hosted gitea might be a solution for them
04:37 matey; puppy (as a project) isnt smart enough to use gitea
04:37 matey; they might have the technical ability, but not the will
04:38 frog; yeah running server cost time and money
04:38 matey; even if you have time and money, it requires committment
04:38 matey; and theyd rather outsource to microsoft
04:38 frog; "committment" <- of course
04:40 frog; gotta back to swimming

11:15 immibis; it's something along the lines of: low interest rates make it easier for the ownership class to get money to pay for people to do work that may or may not be useful. The more available money is, the further down the barrel is scraped.
11:16 immibis; when interest rates rise, everyone whose work was useful is fine because they made money by selling something useful; any jobs that were useless get scrapped
11:16 immibis; and the owners behind those jobs don't get their money back
11:16 schestowitz-TR; I don't follow
11:16 schestowitz-TR; can you maybe explain it another way?
11:16 immibis; who
11:16 schestowitz-TR; low interest for savers?
11:17 immibis; low interest for borrowers means that people can borrow money to start businesses
11:17 schestowitz-TR; ownership class meaning affluent people?
11:17 immibis; some of those businesses do something useful and some do not
11:17 immibis; if the business does something useful, it makes its money back by the time interest rates rise and it has to repay its loans
11:17 immibis; the lower interest rates are, the longer a business doesn't have to make money
11:17 schestowitz-TR; ok, I get it now

12:07 DaemonFC; If you handed map making to a computer program and told it just to respect city and county borders in making the map and to respect communities with similar interests and that everything had to be compact and contiguous, the Democrats would lose a minimum of 1/5th of their seats in the state House.
12:08 DaemonFC; So what they do is they look at how people vote and then they draw all of these "Goofy kicking Donald Duck" and "Homer Simpson" shaped districts that have nothing in common.
12:09 DaemonFC; Even within the counties, right, there's room to have a computer program draw the most unfair districts possible to push out every member for the opposing party and it can be unanimously Democrat, or close to it.
12:09 DaemonFC; That's what they've done. I go to vote, and there's usually a ballot full of no choices at all.
12:10 DaemonFC; If you even mark something you're saying you're okay with this.

12:13 DaemonFC; So, the fact that they had an industry selling games and an industry selling Game Genie systems tells you something. It's the self-esteem movement.

12:14 DaemonFC; People don't thrive in environments with no challenges.
12:14 DaemonFC; They stagnate. They become stupid. They settle for less.
12:15 DaemonFC; Then once people are stupid and stagnant and they get away with that, they pass it along in shitty parenting.
12:15 DaemonFC; Most people simply aren't going to be good parents, and many of those people won't even do the bare minimum in all tasks that are required of them.
12:16 DaemonFC; So instead of perpetuating vicious cycles due to some sense of wanting to call yourself a liberal, why not reform the system and say this is not good.
12:16 activelow; reform? how?
12:17 *activelow hesitates to cite some more of his recent findings
12:17 DaemonFC; My parents weren't poor, so they wouldn't fail by that measure, but if the state investigated them and went rooting through my dad's porn collection and the fact that he wouldn't even give my mother an allowance out of her own money, they would have seen enough to know things weren't right in that house.
12:18 DaemonFC; If they audited their tax returns, they would have known that they weren't honest people. They were willing to commit perjury to further tax evasion.
12:19 DaemonFC; Anyway, kids are always punished for what their parents do.
12:20 DaemonFC; So giving bad people the privilege of having kids just punishes the kids. The parents won't give a shit because the state does nothing except give them money for doing it.

12:24 DaemonFC; They didn't ask any of those people if they wanted to die. They didn't even care about or try to make it painless.
12:25 DaemonFC; In fact, our system goes to the other extreme. It won't allow people to die if they want too, if they're in a lot of pain and their life is going very badly.

13:57 DaemonFC; Yeah, double platinums.
13:57 DaemonFC; The Crown Victoria liked them.
13:57 DaemonFC; Iridiums last longer, but they put too much resistance on the ignition system.
13:57 WanderleiN; who?
13:57 DaemonFC; You can risk frying the ignition control module and the coil packs.
13:58 DaemonFC; They do run so hot that it's hard to foul them up with carbon deposits though.
13:58 DaemonFC; So they're marketed as "self-cleaning".
13:58 *ziraffep (~ziraffep@v3dbj67t2h8z2.irc) has joined #techrights
13:59 DaemonFC; Honestly, I'm not sure whether it's better to just leave those alone, because the benefit is you'll never have to change your spark plugs again, but the downside is that they can cause failure that travels up the ignition system.
14:00 DaemonFC; It's cheaper to just plan on replacing the platinum plugs once more during the life of the car than it is to replace an ignition control module and all of your coil packs.
14:00 DaemonFC; Manufacturers are putting iridium plugs on as OE, because they want it to last 100,000 trouble-free miles or so and then start acting up after you sell it.
14:01 WanderleiN; they shoot down a mig Fulcrum
14:02 DaemonFC; If the car came with Platinum plugs, I'd leave it alone until the odometer reaches about 125,000 miles.

14:02 DaemonFC; Unless it has a turbocharger.

14:15 immibis; you know, a black person asked me today if I had weed (apparently I just look like that). should he have been given the electric chair?
14:15 DaemonFC; You need to watch for leaking intake gaskets, oil drippage through the pan gasket, that sort of thing.

14:16 immibis; DaemonFC: You really don't trust the state, at all, and yet you think the state should determine who's allowed to reproduce?
14:16 DaemonFC; When the intake gaskets start leaking coolant, it's usually a drip leak. As long as you keep a spare bottle of 50/50 in the trunk you can just top it off and drive back home and get into the shop that week.
14:17 DaemonFC; <immibis> DaemonFC: You really don't trust the state, at all, and yet you think the state should determine who's allowed to reproduce?
14:17 DaemonFC; If the state set higher standards, eventually better people would be running the state too.
14:17 DaemonFC; Because they'd have to impress people that don't depend on it, which would be a fundamental shift from vote buying.
14:17 immibis; hate crime is when you kill a gay man BECAUSE he's a gay man, not just when you kill a man who happens to be gay

14:19 immibis; and "men"
14:19 immibis; the masculinity thing is far-right
14:19 DaemonFC; They're just really weak engines that can't stand up to basic wear and tear, and they're designed by wimpy California liberals who want the stupid thing to get 1 mpg more gas mileage.
14:19 DaemonFC; And take away 2/3rds of the service life of the engine to get it.
14:20 immibis; aluminium is also cheaper than steel, isn't it?
14:20 immibis; oh no, it's not
14:20 DaemonFC; We switched from aluminum to cast iron in a factory I worked at.
14:20 immibis; DaemonFC: You want to begin fixing this problem by having the state prevent undesirables from reproducing
14:20 DaemonFC; Because we were having too many parts come back under warranty for the aluminum warping under heat.
14:21 DaemonFC; And so we put the cast iron parts in and our return rate fell to less than 1/10th of what it was with the aluminum.
14:21 kingoffrance; enlightenment was the people are the state. so noone is doing that anymore
14:21 immibis; maybe don't make parts out of aluminium that need to withstand heat without warping. making the parts out of aluminium that don't need to do that, however, is based.
14:21 immibis; material selection is a thing
14:21 DaemonFC; Well, the first thing to go to shit was the engine's block heads.
14:21 immibis; some parts need to resist heat, other parts don't but are useful if lighter-weight
14:22 DaemonFC; They did aluminum heads and a cast iron block.
14:22 DaemonFC; And then head gasket failure almost always meant warped block heads too.
14:22 immibis; that's basically just what apple did with iphones
14:22 DaemonFC; Which meant rebuilding the top of the engine when the gasket failed and the overheat happened.
14:22 DaemonFC; Then they replaced the entire block with aluminum.
14:22 DaemonFC; Now if it overheats, what you usually do is buy a used engine and hope it doesn't happen again to that one.
14:23 WanderleiN; if it over heats move to alaska

14:24 DaemonFC; But Ford's engineers went back and said you could do it on anything as old as the 1992 model year for that engine.
14:24 DaemonFC; But it would destroy the old 5 liter V8 on the 1991 and older.
14:24 DaemonFC; 0w20 is not appropriate for the Buick 3800 V6.
14:24 DaemonFC; I run it on 0w30 and it works fine.
14:25 immibis; you should try running it on gasoline
14:25 immibis; i hear it works better

14:27 immibis; DaemonFC: have you considered driving a human-sized quadcopter instead of a car?

15:19 DaemonFC; That one especially.
15:20 DaemonFC; At least mainstream Christianity doesn't specifically condone fucking 12 year olds after you cut off part of their genitals and calling them your "wives".
15:20 DaemonFC; Muslims are known for that too. They're sick in the head. Worse than the worst Catholic priests.
15:21 DaemonFC; And we can't say that because while we have all of these "Death to America" mosques with the child fucking, it's not WOKE to say what they are doing in there.
15:21 DaemonFC; But everyone knows it. And in their own country they just murder gay people and laugh about it and it's the state doing it too or turning a blind eye to it.
15:22 DaemonFC; Bill Maher got a lot of hate from the WOKE crowd.
15:23 DaemonFC; People like those California nutcases genuinely don't want to "get" it, how "tolerating" Muslims isn't compatible with a free country where people can be gay.
15:23 DaemonFC; There is no Muslim country where people have basic human rights, and most of them don't have even the trappings of a basic democracy or elections.
15:24 DaemonFC; <immibis> and if you do think muslims should dislike gays then why is that?
15:24 DaemonFC; I think they should stop being Muslims and go get their head examined.
15:24 DaemonFC; I'd say that about people in any religion though.
15:25 DaemonFC; When people are religious then they get an entitlement mentality that goes along with it.
15:25 DaemonFC; How fucking arrogant are you anyway, that you think you're better than someone and that only your religion is right just becuase your two dumbass parents bumped uglies and that's all you ever got to hear about it and so that's what you are now.
15:25 DaemonFC; It's not even "Your religion." most likely, unless you're one of the few converts.
15:26 DaemonFC; It was IMPOSED on you before you were able to think.
15:26 DaemonFC; And Dawkins says it, not quite like that, in The God Delusion.
15:27 DaemonFC; That it's sad that people accept it when other people say "That Muslim child." or "That Christian child.".
15:28 DaemonFC; You're a brand new mind. You don't have a bullshit filter yet. It hasn't even occurred to you that your parents messed up a lot of things, don't plan to have you, and are going to die someday.
15:28 DaemonFC; So most of the time, right, the kids believe anything their parents say. Even if it's crazy!
15:29 DaemonFC; When I was 4 years old, I went over to my grandmother's house (my dad's mom) and then I came out and asked mom why there was a monster guarding the outlets and why grandma said don't flush the toilet because it's broken and why she said there was a mean dog out in the back yard so don't go there.
15:29 DaemonFC; And she was making all of that up.
15:30 DaemonFC; She didn't want to explain that you could get hurt very badly by electricity or that she just didn't want to pay the water bill or keep an eye on you if you went to play in the back yard.
15:31 DaemonFC; So, you know, then it started to dawn on me, once mom let it slip, that if your grandparents make things up because they just don't want to deal with you, maybe your parents do too.
15:32 DaemonFC; And I always felt particularly "wrong" in church.
15:32 DaemonFC; Like the bible, after that, was an entire book of "There's a monster guarding the electrical outlets, the toilet is broken, and there's a vicious dog in the yard.".
15:33 DaemonFC; By the time I was about 7 I was chronically depressed. I realized that whether it was that day, 10 years, or 90 years away, there'd be an end to me and that there'd be nothing more, and so what's the point?
15:34 DaemonFC; And I think it was 6 or 7, anyway. They started taking me to a child psychiatrist at that point.
15:34 DaemonFC; They diagnosed the inability to focus and the lack of interest in anything as "Attention Deficit Disorder".
15:36 DaemonFC; And there was just constant turmoil in the house. Parents fighting all the time, dad calling mom "fucking bitch" the horrible stench of dad's cigarettes. We'd get pets and then they'd do something mom didn't like and so they "went to live on a farm". She didn't want to walk one of them and let it out without a leash and it got hit and killed by a car.
15:36 DaemonFC; So that really helped the depression.
15:36 DaemonFC; Getting to bury my dead dog in the back yard when I was 8 because mom didn't want to walk it while I was away.
15:37 DaemonFC; So, very young age, thanks to some godawful parenting, "There is no God.".
15:38 DaemonFC; You know, adults are supposed to protect children from dealing with trauma, and my parents didn't give a shit.
15:38 DaemonFC; "Here's a shovel. Go bury your dog."
15:38 DaemonFC; "We'll get divorced in 6 years and blame you for that too!"
15:39 DaemonFC; So, what schestowitz-TR doesn't get I guess, and I think he doesn't have kids either....

15:40 DaemonFC; And mom asks me how I do it.
15:41 DaemonFC; And she gets mad when I tell her.
15:41 DaemonFC; I say, "Well, I feed them good food, and if they develop a behavior, instead of dumping them out in a field somewhere I understand the psychological reason for the behavior and redirect them.
15:42 DaemonFC; That's where spanking a child comes in, btw.
15:42 DaemonFC; You know, people do it too much because it's easier than understanding where the behavior comes from.
15:43 MinceR; probably also enjoyable to many people
15:43 DaemonFC; I wasn't a child who learned anything from being hit except to say in my head "Jesus Christ that woman is a bitch, can you believe that shit? How many more years do I have to live here?".
15:44 DaemonFC; When you grow up, if you hit someone there's criminal charges.
15:45 DaemonFC; If you hit your spouse there's domestic abuse felonies.
15:45 DaemonFC; But it's okay to just beat the fuck out of your kids because they annoyed you.
15:46 DaemonFC; Beat em senseless. As long as there's no bruises, cuts, or broken bones when they go to school, the state says it's fine.

16:50 DaemonFC; A total money pit.
16:51 DaemonFC; I hate machines that aren't simple. Absolutely hate them.
16:52 DaemonFC; I keep going back to cars. People get absolutely no benefit at all from all of this modern technology.
16:52 DaemonFC; It looks "futuristic", and then they buy it and they find out how awful it is.
16:52 DaemonFC; It's expensive to service. There's serious malfunctions after a few years.
16:53 DaemonFC; And they know that you know it, and they'll win either way.
16:53 DaemonFC; Either the company sells you a service plan and makes money guaranteed, or you're back in there paying them retail price to fix it all the time, or you just give up and sell it and take a loss.
16:54 DaemonFC; And with older bigger cars, without any really fancy computers and sensors, if it starts acting up, you just pop the hood and see what the problem is, unbolt the part, throw it into the garbage (or take it back for the core) and bolt a new part on. The car starts right back up.
16:55 DaemonFC; So with the newer stuff, even if the technology or the manufacturing process gets you good gas mileage, incredibly good gas mileage, it's not worth it.

17:34 MinceR; the last i've heard was that we have 3 years or so to greatly reduce our emissions to avert a catastrophe
17:34 immibis; we have negative years
17:34 DaemonFC; Half the people going to see it will "spread the wealth around" with the muggings and carjackings.
17:34 MinceR; i'm predicting that as usual, humanity isn't going to do jack shit about it in 3 years
17:34 immibis; whoever told you 3 years was optimistic
17:34 MinceR; i know
17:34 immibis; maybe the hatred for russian nazis will help avert the climate change catastrophe. i'd give it a 10% probability
17:35 MinceR; more likely that war and related stuff will drive even more pollution
17:35 immibis; but what will be burned? wood?
17:35 MinceR; yes, and coal
17:35 MinceR; and extra resources will be used to prepare for more war
17:35 MinceR; and ukrainian cities and people will be burned
17:36 MinceR; and we might also end up with a thermonuclear war
17:36 immibis; that will drive humans extinct, solving climate change
17:36 MinceR; oh, also, not just wood and coal but also plastic
17:36 immibis; plastic is made from oil
17:37 DaemonFC; Nobody is going to do anything.
17:37 DaemonFC; California will cause a big economic mess for itself.
17:37 DaemonFC; That's about it.
17:37 DaemonFC; Fuck them..
17:37 kingoffrance; "an intellectual and philosophical movement" yes, which supposedly separated church and state. as all gov. are based on various philosophies
17:38 kingoffrance; conway's law
17:38 MinceR; people are going to do some stuff, some of which will be ineffectual and some of which will be counterproductive
17:38 kingoffrance; and hence people claimed to be the state
17:38 DaemonFC; Well, think about it. If California decides to commit to this, it'll just make less incentive to buy an EV anywhere else while all of them suffer.
17:39 DaemonFC; The gaoline prices there are already several dollars a gallon more than the national average.
17:39 DaemonFC; But banning the sale of new gasoline cars after 2035 is just a pipe dream.
17:39 DaemonFC; It'll be unworkable.
17:39 DaemonFC; People will figure out ways to sabotage it.
17:40 immibis; DaemonFC: they are already effectively banned by the fact prices ar ehigh
17:40 DaemonFC; Like buying them in other states and paying to have it registered somewhere else for a year before "importing it" into California and driving it there anyway.
17:40 DaemonFC; Good, the more harm California self-inflicts, the more it holds down prices here.
17:40 immibis; DaemonFC is not very enlightened
17:41 immibis; the reason you hate california is it has black people and homeless people, right?

22:34 DaemonFC; Oh, it's reliable.
22:35 MinceR; i'd prefer a Land Cruiser with a V8
22:35 DaemonFC; MinceR, The US auto industry has produced four generally decent engines in the last 40 years.
22:35 MinceR; yeah, and i'm not into gambling
22:36 DaemonFC; The Ford Vulcan V6, the GM 60 degree V6 (the 3100 SFI model ended up producing 170 hp wand was hella fun in the Beretta), the Ford Modular V8, and the GM 3800 V6.
22:36 DaemonFC; The 3800 V6 goes back to 1962.
22:37 DaemonFC; *was
22:38 DaemonFC; Anyway, the 3800 V6 Series 3 is the best choice if you have a choice.
22:38 DaemonFC; They decided to use the stronger connecting rods from the supercharged model even in the NA model.
22:38 DaemonFC; So you get much better odds that a MAJOR internal part of the engine will work okay for a very long time.
22:39 *u-amarsh04 has quit (Quit: Konversation terminated!)
22:39 DaemonFC; Don't buy a 4.6 liter Modular V8 from Ford unless it's a 2001 or newer.
22:39 DaemonFC; To avoid those defective DuPont intakes that could fail.
22:40 DaemonFC; Buying the 3100 SFI V6 from GM, you should plan to replace the intake manifold gaskets and switch to different coolant.
22:41 DaemonFC; So you don't want to pay a lot of money for the car even though it's a good engine other than that.
22:42 DaemonFC; https://itstillruns.com/information-3100-sfi-v6-engine-7868958.html
22:42 TR Bot; Information on a 3100 SFI V6 Engine | It Still Runs
22:42 DaemonFC; It's actually a surprisingly powerful engine for its size. It gets decent mileage in a car like a Beretta or Corsica, where it was the upgrade option from the underpowered Inline 4.
22:43 DaemonFC; The car was built around the idea that most people would pick the base engine so it had to be possible to drive it with an engine that put out a wimpy little 100 horsepower.
22:43 DaemonFC; The 3100 V6 puts out 175 horsepower.
22:43 DaemonFC; So the car really moves if you have that engine.
22:44 DaemonFC; MinceR, Most American cars from the 80s, 90s, and 00s have bigger engines than the car itself really needs.
22:44 DaemonFC; Like, power to weight ratio.
22:45 DaemonFC; I was looking for an older car and pulled up a 1978 Lincoln someone was selling with 38,000 miles on it. 7.5 liter V8.
22:45 DaemonFC; Of course, you needed that back then because the engines just weren't very good.
22:46 DaemonFC; It put out less power than the 3800 V6 did in the 2000s, and it used more than twice as much fuel in the process.
22:46 DaemonFC; Some software in a vehicle is probably a necessary evil, but we long since jumped the shark.
22:47 DaemonFC; Especially on how much it can do for fuel economy.
22:47 DaemonFC; Now they're making "empty beer cans on wheels with a dinky engine" for, well........whoever responds to TV commercials with giant hamsters in them I guess.
