THOSE who have been following our IBM coverage in recent years won’t be surprised at all by what’s happening right now. It’s far from shocking, they just do it one little step at a time, turning RHEL into AIX or treating it like their premium UNIX, which is more or less proprietary (to the extent tolerated by the GPL if not slightly beyond that).

While people online are still debating whether IBM complies with the terms of the GPL (see some links here in Tux Machines and in our previous batches of Daily Links at Techrights), there’s no doubt that there’s no goodwill here. IBM does not value the community. It’s driving it away. It views volunteers as slaves who, at best, “stand in the way” by expressing their views. It’s removing them based on their nationality, especially the more influential ones.
