Summary: A look back at site banners from 2006-2021; they help illuminate or show our changing focus over the years
The site is improving technically in order to improve its resilience, both legally and technically (it’s going to be very hard to SLAPP us or weaponise the world’s DMCA-type laws). In terms of communications, we’ve become more self-contained. Anybody can get in touch with us in IRC at the channel #techrights in irc.techrights.org (only us can see the communications, e.g. messages sent from one user to another).
“In terms of communications, we’ve become more self-contained.”We’ve clearly expanded our scope of coverage over the years and it’s worth looking back at some top banners/headers, which can tell the story of the site (since 2006). Not a great storytelling exercise, but still…
Here’s one of the earliest banners, which was directed at Steve Ballmer and the reminder to “boycott Novell” (that’s Ron Hovsepian next to him, based on a real photograph):
> Image: Techrights header
Based on the original template, which we softened somewhat (the tones):
> Image: Techrights header
> Image: Techrights header
Later on, years down the line we made further changes as the site expanded and wasn’t focused on patents and Novell:
> Image: Techrights header
2010:
> Image: Techrights header
2011:
> Image: Techrights header
2012:
> Image: Techrights header
2014:
> Image: Techrights header
Similar, but not the same files!
Then there were some campaign banners, as a respect to politically urgent issues (of their days):
> Image: Techrights header
> Image: Techrights header
> Image: Techrights header
Some in respect to people who died:
> Image: Techrights header
> Image: Techrights header
In 2019 our capacity to publish increased a lot and we spent effort on banners again:
> Image: Techrights header
> Image: Techrights header
2020:
> Image: Techrights header
And finally this year:
> Image: Techrights header
> Image: Techrights header
> Image: Techrights header
Yesterday we reflected and remarked on the current focus of Techrights. We expect that over the coming weeks the EPO will remain the most covered topic. It’s hard to predict which topics will become of high priority in the coming years (no crystal balls available), but we will adapt accordingly as they come and pass. █
