xv image viewer â xv is an amazing, minimalistic, old school, open source, but not free software, image viewer. it is available in gentoo by doing `emerge xv` so i use it since i found it about 20 years ago. when i have mounted nfs partitions and the connection is slow or unavailable, all other image viewers are not able to even load themselves. xv is always available and responsive. though it is not free software but i can build it with png and other modernizing patches made by community....
Share minimalistic CLI softwares you use, I will start: sfm - a file manager build on termbox, you can set program to handle a file type (by file name extension) in config.h vgmi - CLI gemini browser with vi keybinding written in C, their official git seems to be locked behind password, but their github mirror is still open.
Most mechanical movements only need to be disassembled and cleaned once every 3 to 5 years. Yes you need a few consumables such as o-rings and few micrograms of lubricants of different grades. But a well serviced movement can last few decades. If you pick a mass produced movements, replacement part are relatively easy and cheap to source. The Swiss ETA2824 movement for example has been in production since circa 1974! Can you imagine such a long product life cycle in the world of electronics?...
Minimal web layout alts for Big Web spaces â Im doing this post from my user feed as the topic I have in mind doesn't seem to correspond to any s/subspace that exists as of yet. It's too connected to tech to post in s/casual and not related enough to gemini to post in s/discuss. Maybe I should start a s/general space for general topics, of random nature? Lmk what you think. Ok, so as for my inquiry: does anyone else still feel tied to modern platforms as a result of family/friends/work/etc yet...
