i use gentoo since 2005, if i was less stupid i would start using it earlier. i have been written an utility for rpm based distros that would have http path with src.rpm files in config file, would download src.rpm package, try to build it. check output, get dependencies, if any, repeat the process recoursively. that way i was able to build extra software for my redhat systems. also i was able to update rhels by not having access to binaries but to sources only. i also played with debians...
Hello! — I just want to introduce myself to start some activity in this subspace. I use Gentoo as my desktop OS since July 2023. My other favorite OS is Debian, I used it as a desktop OS since 2012 and I still use it for servers. I really like the stability of Debian with it's versioned releases. I hope one day the Gentoo project will have more resources to implement something like this on top of the OS, fortunately emerge is very powerful. Apart from that I prefer the approaches of Gentoo.
