Make a StealthBox with Devuan and Libre Computer Renegade

ISSUED: 2023-12-06

Finally I was able to complete this gemlog series. 🎇

For this idea rather than doing a big endless gemlog I preferred split it into several gemlogs that can be read also as indivul log, as a matter of fact some of them were already published!

The scope of this series is to make this little ARM Board Libre Computer ROC-RK3328-CC (based on the same Firefly model) able to:

boot from an encrypted filesystem,

be able to connect through a VNC to a Windows machine,

let the board taking the internet connection from an android phone.

This allows you to brows on the internet privately, and if for some reason the board is lost or stolen your data is encrypted thus inacessible. It is important to mention than usually the images provided for those single board computers (SBC) do not support installation over any encrypted the filesystem.

How to approach this series

The series is composed by a total of 6 gemlogs including this introduction. The following gemlog are mandatory and must be performed before to move the last one:

1. Install Debian on the Libre Computer "Renegade" with encrypted filesystem

2. Setup Dropbear to unlock Debian on the Libre Computer "Renegade" over your Local Network

3. Migrating from Debian Bookworm to Devuan Daedalus on the Libre Computer "Renegade" Single Board Computer

When you migrated Debian into Devuan you can finally follow the last walk-through:

4. Make a StealthBox with Devuan and Libre Computer Renegade: Setup

I really reccomend to read everything before to take any actions! It is not required Devuan to make a Stealthbox but this guide is addressed for the one who want use Devuan specifically!

Skills Required

This guide is located in the middle between a normal end-user and a power-user, anyone with the ability to follow directions should be able to go to end. Having a basic knowledge how it works a Terminal is essential, the majorities of the command are given through a command line interaction on Devuan as well as on Windows. If you feel uncomfortable using the command line thus this guide isn't for you.

Wrapping this up

I tested the process several times, and I use the Stealthbox daily, I can confirm that is working properly and it does its job well!

Good luck! 🌶️ 🍀🪬
