Forever Fiddling

I tend to never find the tools that do quite exactly that thing I want. Most of the times the existing tools are just too bloated, or require a structure or workflow that just isn't my thing. Sometimes they're too expensive. This isn't all the time, by the way; mostly just when it comes to programs.

But I gotta be honest. A lot of the times they're just not written by me.

When I make my own tools for what I do, I learn stuff. And I understand what the tools do, and why they do it. Their features sometimes grow out of how I wish I would do things -- those tools rarely get used, of course, because that's just how wishful thinking works.

The best ones, or at least the ones I end up using the most, are the ones that grow organically. I make a tool for that one thing I'm sick of doing manually all the time, and that tool is pretty much guaranteed to be well utilized.

By me, and only me. But y'know, I'm the target audience so I guess that's fine.

What I meant to say with this long rambling is that I've started building a static site generator in ugly bash code again...
