American Tendencies

It seems politics in the Netherlands have a bit of an American tendency. That is to say, things are getting a tad polarized and moving to fascist adjacent nutters. And that is even with the 20-odd parties we have here.

It was election day yesterday. The results are rolling in now. At the very least, the centrist party is the one that increased the most in power... As far as I can tell at the cost of any real left wing representation... Or I haven't checked enough yet at time of writing...

One of the other parties that's greatly increased in size is run as a monarchy, with one fascist adjacent, overtly racist and Islamophobic nutter calling the shots. The way I first heard of the leader of the other party was a clip of him starting his speech in Latin, a few years ago. The moderator quickly told him "Um, sir? We speak Dutch in the Netherlands you know? So could you either continue in Dutch or shut up?" followed by a clip of him bitching about "cultural Marxism" (no, I still don't really have a single fucking clue what that is besides a dog whistle). He's also been seen joking around with what boil down to modern day pizza-gaters (I hate that suffix...).

A few months ago it seemed the second of the two parties was falling apart as there were some rather homophobic noises being heard and the leader got kicked out. After laughing my arse off over this for a little while and not paying attention any more, he's apparently rejoined his party.

It was a hilarious and spectacular fallout. The leader was still in control of their social media accounts, while the guys who were still in office installed new locks in order to prevent him from getting in.

Motherfucking p*zza-g*te

> The bullshit is strong with this one.

Yup... For some reason there is a significant group of people who believe our politicians are Moloch worshipping pedophiles... And yes... All of this is somehow still tied to the sodding pizza gate incident...

Someone who I even considered a friend once, recently asked me if I could tell him anything about this Moloch character -- me having a reputation for having a reasonable knowledge of mythology and Abrahamic religions. That same "friend" has earlier this year proven to be an anti-vaxxer... The subject of a potential COVID vaccine popped up. He said he wouldn't take it as it would apparently have mercury in it... It's still weird to meet someone who actually believes horseshit like that...

Personal choice

The party I voted for is not in power. Not particularly surprising. They're a rather new party, having existed in the niches of politics for around the last five years (I think, not too sure, should do some research). Reason I voted for them, is them being, as far as I can tell, one of two parties with any amount of knowledge of how the digital world works (in fact, they did a gave-away with a PineBook Pro on their social media; hell they even have a Pleroma instance). The other party didn't even remotely pop up in the-list-of-parties-I-should-potentially-vote-for. So like a true lazy, cynical bastard, I didn't really bother to look into them.

Said Pleroma instance
