Onion Soup

Ingredients


6 medium yellow onions (sliced into strips)

1/4 cup butter

3 tbsp flour

3 cups water

salt and pepper to taste

(optional) bread crusts or croutons (preferably homemade bread)

(optional) shredded cheese to taste



Instructions


Melt butter in frying pan

Cook onions in frying pan on medium-low heat until caramelized, stirring about every minute

Once onions are caramelized, add flour to frying pan and mix in frying pan at medium-low heat to make an onion roux

Put cooked onion roux into a pot and add 2 1/2 cups of water

Bring water to boil and add salt and pepper to taste

Let soup boil for about 3-5 minutes, stirring occasionally

Serve soup in a bowl, optionally adding some bread crusts or croutons and cheese to top of soup
