4th & Stuff

Hello! Happy 4th of july for fellow americans. Hope you are celebrating the 'murican way! Indulging on yummy food and watching colorful magnesium compounds explode in the night sky. I myself plan to get terribly intoxicated and listen to music on top of those things but thats optional.

my previous challenge

So I promised to do some photo stuff and update the FC. Neither of these things happened, at all. Oh well. Sorry about that.

happened last week

I had a job interview at a winery/renaissance faire for the position of Electrical Helper. The guy who interviewed me was the single electrician the company had. Apparently he had been working there a decade and only now they decided it was time he could use a helper. I really liked the guy and the work doesn't seem too terrible all things considered, a lot better than my work in the printing press as a maintenance tech.

He walked me around the faire grounds and showed the electical boxes and how they were run. Cleverly disgused in places the average faire goer would never notice walking by. In a place thats supposed to look historical and stuff its important to hide the electrical wires else it kills the vibe lol.

For some reason the prospect excited me. It wouldn't be making me a lot of money but its different. Outside work around cute castles and checkerboard gardens instead of being trapped in an industrial complex having to wear hearing protection all the time just to not go deaf.

Heres hoping they call back soon!

sale

I got black mesa, the stanley parable ultra deluxe, and the room 4 during the steam summer sale so far.

Mesa

I tried HL1 but the graphics really were godawful. Some of the early 3D games like HL1 and Deus Ex while cult classics are hella ugly by modern standards. And not in a cute way like the OG Crash and Spyro games. Awesome for their time for sure, but an eyesore in 2022. Black mesa is a graphical remaster of HL1 for the modern era. The story of HL1 itself is timeless, so far Im really into it. The opening is fucking cool man. For 5$ you cant go wrong with a faithful remaster of one of the most influential games of all time.

Stanley Parable Ultra Deluxe

I have been hyped for this one for *years* now since it was first announced. I was a big fan of the original TSP and UD is promised to be a HUGE expansion to the game. most of the OG endings were tweaked to at least be new. The Bucket variants double the amount of endings twice over. The intro of the UD was very funny and made some great comentary on the nature of modern game development in a light hearted satire. As a fan who explored every inch of the original, Is it worth 25$? Eh, maybe not. 16$? Sure. I cant help but feel a little let down, but maybe theres a whole nother segment of the game waiting to be unlocked. I haven't spoiled anything for myself thusfar and won't now.

The Room 4

The room is a puzzle game series about tinkering with obscenely complex puzzle boxes to unlock the mysteries of a... well lets not spoil anything. My dad and I like to play The Room games together once in a blue moon. This purchase was for him mostly.

Games I want

Im not too much of a gamer anymore but admittedly some have held my interest since I head of them. Disco Elysium is a crown jewel of RPGs. I never got a chance to play HALO and the master collection is looking pretty sweet. I never been much for FPS shooters with the exception of COD MW2 and Black Ops but maybe halo can change that. Manifold Garden is my kind of trippy puzzle game in the same genre as Antichamber of Superluminal, but I hear its short. I liked dark souls 1 and Sekiro shadows die twice looks pretty cool.

But for now I spent enough money and still have games I need to finish first. Its hard to justify spending much more than 30$ right now. Maybe by the 7th Ill buy one more on my list.
