It's 3 Germinal, year 232.

Day of Asparagus in the rural calendar; I'm writing this at decimal time 5:77.

It's been about six months since my last gemlog entry. I tend to go through phases where greater intensity at work leads me to avoid spending too much effort on the personal computer. The last three or four months have been especially intense.

Six months ago I wrote about Ada which is a very nice programming language with very horrible tooling. Since then I've experimented with a simple Gemini client in lisp, nothing super professional but it's always fun to play around with the protocol.

I recently made a major improvement to my home server setup by replacing the failing batteries in my UPS. Prior to that, my storage server was shutting down about once every two weeks, which took down most of my compute cluster. Now that I've got fresh batteries, the entire cluster has survived multiple brownouts and one hour-long blackout with no manual intervention. I host my brother-in-law's personal/professional website in my cluster now, so not needing to sweat uptime as much is quite nice.
