piano, phones, pain, parties, puniversity, and pjobs

a lot has been going on in my life lately, and i'm hoping it doesn't mold me into a worse person. so far i think i'm okay though.

piano

i am starting to enjoy playing the piano a bit more. i can analyze music scores for concepts of music theory, i can /sort of/ fiddle around to create pleasant sounds with it on the fly (though sticking to a particular style is still hard)!

i'm super slow about music. i'm super slow about everything, but i'm enjoying it a bit at least!

phones

i use a samsung galaxy s5. it doesn't even have a phone plan attached to it. i'm super cheap, i know. i really just use it to run xmpp in the background so i can collect messages on it, since it's an arm computer, so it uses less electricity to run all night.

i also use it to keep up with irc. i can't type on it to save my life, so i usually just read messages on it, then wake up my computer to reply to them.

more recently, i have been using it to look up maps so i can find out which turns to take. my s5 handles it very well, but since i put lineageos on it, i don't have access to google maps, and maps runs pretty slow in my web browser. with the s10 i'll probably keep stock android on it, cause nowadays i actually have things to do instead of getting mad at google.

a friend of mine offered an "old" s10 that she's not using at all anymore. it's 5 years newer than my current phone, and i'm kind of excited to try it, even if

pain

last night, in the middle of the night, i fell down the stairs and hit my elbow pretty good. i woke some people up and i kind of feel bad about that.

i thought it was just a bruise, but i ended up needing a bandage.

the bandage box was gone. the iodine was gone. it wsan't a huge deal, but it was frustrating. i did find the bandage box eventually, and my arm wasn't *too* bad, so i just cleaned it with water.

it was midnight when i finally got back to bed, but an hour later i had my good old... well, sleep paralysis i guess. there are always either monsters or spiderwebs around my door, but i managed to attempt to collect a bit of sanity and tell myself "they're not even there" so i can get outside and breathe for a while.

parties

my city has lots of bars and clubs. i hate loud music, i don't do well with crowds. it's really not my scene, but i needed some social experience so i went with some people.

we talked a little bit, but i couldn't hear them because my ears aren't that great with speakers blasting right next to us. we did some drinking and dancing, which was kind of fun!

puniversity

yes, i tried to start every word in the title with a "p" but it didn't work out, did it?

my university is mad at me because i was homeschooled, and i'm mad at them because i feel like it's a stupid thing to get mad at me about.

they're also mad that i didn't take a departmental, which is more valid, *but* alberta doesn't have a departmental for music, so i'm trying to call them out on that. it's been frustrating.

pjobs

jobs are so hard to come across here. best buy called me, but i wasn't home at the time, and they have not been answering when i try to call them back.

my older brother works at shaw (a canadian internet service provider) and he says he might be able to land me a job with them. i don't like door-to-door marketing, but i can't exactly choose what i want right now...

i'm somewhat sad that i can't land a job in system administration or computer programming, even at a junior level, because they assume a degree. that's okay though.

anyway, that's it for what's new with me! just thought i'd braindump about it before getting up for the morning. also: good morning, smolnet!
