on documentation

i document things. lots of things. i write a lot. i should write less. i should keep my mouth shut sometimes, but for some reason it feels good to write

on each and every one of my machines, just after i get them, i usually create a file in the home directory named "readme", which is a text file talking about me, the computer specs, the directory structure, the software installed, and how to find further help. i don't know why, but i have a habit of treating the world as though i'll be dead within the hour.

my code has a lot of comments in it. some older textbooks have notes taped to the inside of the cover, telling future readers how to configure their system so that the ancient code examples work smoothly.

power supplies are labeled so people know what device they're for. cables are usually stored with twist-ties, so they don't tangle and leave anyone trying to fix them. things that are broken have notes on them telling users what exactly is wrong, what to do about it, and why it broke.

generally speaking... i'm clean. i'm a clean person. i try my best to do everything as gracefully and smoothly as possible. my clothes are folded. my bed is made. my cassettes are labeled and cased, my books are arranged by topic, then by height, then by colour.

if i were away and you snuck into my home, you may have some trouble cause i'm a cryptonut, but if you had my keys, i like to think you'd be able to find everything you were looking for within a matter of minutes.

oh yeah, i don't try my best to keep organized because i have ocd or something. it's actually just because i procrastinate from doing real work... i procrastinate *a lot*.
