the machine is dead

that is to say, my asus eee pc 900's power adapter finally died.

it's not exactly a powerhouse of a machine, but it may have been my favourite. it's so small and cute, and it's probably what i wrote most of my poetry on, since it's easy to flip open to jot stuff down on.

it's around $15 for a new power adapter. it's cheap, but i'm cheaper. i'll wait for a while. it's not an important investment, anyway.

the specs

it's a surprisingly nice little box:

intel celeron m, 900 megahertz

1 gigabyte of ram

120 gigabyte ssd (upgrade)

parabola gnu/linux

ports for vga, usb, ethernet, and audio

the stories

since i'm not sleepy yet, i'll talk a bit about that lil guy:

i found it at a thrift store in 2019 for $5. the previous owner put a glittery, bumpy sticker on the cover, and it's cute, so i kept it. it originally had windows xp on it.

when i upgraded to an ssd, it wouldn't boot, and it sat around on a shelf until early 2020, when a bios upgrade brought it back to life. i tried (and failed) to install debian hurd on it, before settling on parabola.

i may have stepped on it by accident a few times. it's a sturdy little thing! small enough to fit in a purse, too, which is just rad!

some of my best software was written on it, and it makes me sort of embarrassed that i spent $2,000 on an expensive ergonomic workstation a few years prior.

alright, now i'm sleepy. time for bed.
