A beginners journey to self-hosting

I'm planning on setting up my very own server at home, for hosting a few websites and a Gemini capsule. And as a complete beginner, I'm sure it's going to be a bit of a challenge. To document my journey, I'm going to write about each step here. When everything's ready, I'm going to put this on the new server.

I'm mostly writing this for myself, to remember the steps I took until I got everything working, but I also think it could be useful for other beginners who want to set up their own servers as I've yet to see a complete guide for the whole process I'm planning on.
