Into the Decentralized Web

2023-03-02

I've been browsing the web actively for most of my life. I've scrolled through thousands of comments from people I've never met. Read books after the reading preferences, cooked recipes after their taste buds, glimpsed at their minds through their takes on philosophy, the world and politics.

I'd say I've taken in a lot from the web coming out of my screens, but I've rarely sent something back. I've been on the quieter, observeful side and I've liked it a lot there. Participating in the web didn't feel natural to me. Typing my opinions and thoughts into the void for them to land into unkown screens. Why would a stranger care?

I enjoyed the early days of facebook and twitter when most of your feeds would consist on glimpses of your networks' life. The change was gradual, but it did not take long until I was wading through a sea of ads and propaganda in search of the ocassional update from friends and family.

Recently, I've swam in the waters of a different web, a smaller web, a more personal web. The fediverse and tildeverse remind me about those early days when I felt I was amongst other human beings online and we were sharing our experiences.

I'm diving in.
