Hierarchy

Some random gemini page led to a brace of fine papers, "Why we live in hierarchies: a quantitative treatise" and "Emergence of hierarchy in cost-driven growth of spatial network" which assuming no bitrot might be found at or near

The first paper has various interesting points, such as the ability of a few to influence the direction of a much larger group, the difference between dominance and cultural hierarchies in humans, and so forth. The second offers a fairly simple means to lay out neat graphs in space and a parameter to tune that changes the graph from a star (all roads only lead to Rome) to a tree. Probably the best (most interesting) results can be had from some value between these extremes. Thus, spatial-network, and some results thereof.

At the very least I have a new X root image for my new laptop.
