Social Networks Are Crap

Recently I discovered a new fediverse platform.

=>https://codeberg.org/grunfink/snac2 Thats right: snac

I went through the process of installing it, had a few hiccups along the way (like not realising I had no C-compiler installed: but thank you error message) and in maybe half an hour had an instance online.

Previously I had run Akkoma for over a year until I nuked it a month ago. In that time I had gotten used to doomscrolling the federated timeline, browsing topics using the search to find interesting posts… but I found it was using up my day in a way I had not intended. As I guess all “social” platforms eventually do, algorithm or not, if your brain is that way inclined.

Anyway snac has none of that.

No search, no federated or even local timeline (actually I lie, the instance home page can have a combined local feed apparently, but not from your user page).

Each user has their own “page” under the instance domain, which I find pretty damn awesome: it means you can be logged into multiple accounts without having to do any browser trickery! I only have the one, but it would be brilliant for those who have various hobbies or topics they want to dedicate an account to without cluttering their personal account.

I think it will remain my fedi presence for the foreseeable future.
