Someone on the internet is wrong

2023-03-21

So... anyone that has been on the line for more than a nanosecond, will know that changing someones mind has approximately a zero percent chance of happening.

Why then, do users on the fediverse seek out arguments with folks of opposing views (usually bigots) and then get all bent out of shape when the person doubles down and says something extremely offensive in reply.

I mean wow, how did you actually see this going...? I am pretty sure this was always going to be the outcome, so why the fuck did you jump into their replies to refute something. You just went out of your way to attack them. I could see from a cursory glance over their profile that this was a terrible idea - and I don't even fall into a harassed group.

I have learned to check peoples profiles before replying, as some people online are obviously not worth expending time over. So surely those that know they are targets for harrassment, should have learned to do the same? No, this is not an excuse for all the arseholes being arseholes online. They are terrible people that are the sum of their life experiences, sadly.

Here is where you'd imagine Roy from IT Crowd saying "People, what a bunch of bastards" while sipping his coffee, for humourous effect.

And oh, you think you can fix them?

Good luck with that.
