ship-to-ship networking

distance communications are nice to have, but energy limitations are going to put a damper on what's possible shipboard. LoRa is low-bandwidth, low-energy, but also line-of-sight. SW is a viable option for global communications, but suffers from similar bandwidth limitations and the inverse-square law. SW features some interesting data modes (RTTY, FAX, SSTV) that could be used to broadcast media and other digital messages over long distances. repeaters could also be used to provide longer reach without increasing the transmission wattage of individual shipboard radios.

gossip networking within these constraints is an interesting puzzle.
