Condition: VG6
Location: Home, Spearfish: 44.49, -103.87
Target: α Piscium
Const: Pisces
RaDec: 2h2m +2°46
Scope: ST80
Setting: 150x
Double: AB: 250°
Very difficult double. Took a lot of testing with various methods and a good chunk of time to get a confident 'view' of the double. After some time I noticed that there was an arc of light with a different color slightly off to one side of the primary star (it was hardly even elongated). I used that as the basis of my perceived angle attempt. 250° was my guess, and 264° is the actual angle, so that arc of light must have been it! I feel like I got really lucky with this one.
I had a few more targets on my list to hit tonight, but right after viewing α Piscium the threaded internal set screw for my RA knob came loose. I have the worst luck with the RA knobs, and this is on my new mount too! Thankfully, nothing was broken, but it had to be tightened and adjusted and that took enough time for me to figure out that I was too tired to head back out for the night.
