I started making a bracket for mounting the base of the keyboard.
I didn't make one of the grooves for the backplate very tight, so I brought it all the way up to offer additional support.
The mortise will allow this USB port to fit.
And here it is in position.
I made a similar piece for the front of the keyboard but I didn't take any photos or glue it in yet.
I think a rabbet from underneath may be a better technique to mount the plate.
It is easy to do
Less risk of damaging the complex parts
A groove will show if the dovetails aren't positioned just right
It allows the backplate to be removed or replaced
Much easier to apply a finish (paint/shellac) if the plate can be taken away
I will definitely do it this way for the next keyboard I make.
