I had a look over the Hartley this morning. It seems as good as I had hoped. I put a ISO642 wheel (28" x 1 3/8) on the front, and the thing looks mean. It's exactly what I want. I'd love to see a back wheel on it too, but I don't have one handy.
I also have a photo of the hub. It isn't something I've seen before.
But I did discover that the forks are bent. Fortunately, I remember seeing instructions on how to straighten them. I'll share the info when I find it again.
And finally, some photos from "Bicycle and the Bush" of these old Aussie bikes that I drew inspiration from.
I love the continuous curve of the handlebars, the frame-bag and the bag on the front. That was pretty typical for Australian bikes around the turn of the century.
And another (left) that really captures the way the curves of these bikes flow.
