About

In retrospect, I grew up during a weird time. We were among the last to remember life without the Internet, while also being young enough to grow up with AOL and ICQ and things like Geocities and webrings. The Net was new enough that "The Conscience of a Hacker" (1986) or the "Declaration of the Independence of Cyberspace" (1996) could still be unironically written. HTML was being taught to people so they could put up their own homepages on Geocities, or webhosts like Angelfire, while CSS and ubiquitous Javascript were both not yet Things, and people built their own small communities on forums and personal websites and mailing groups.

How did we get from there to here?

I'm interested in technology policy and hacker culture -- not just the technologies in themselves, but also the communities they emerge from, the issues they give rise to, and how things could be different.

I also like photography, coffee, and cats.
