37 - Jone's revenge.

I had another of the dreams last night about the giant Jone, the one who lies under that island that I don't know. And in my dream, I know that I am in the brain of giant Jone, in its dream. And in that dream I find myself in this empty land that is strange to me. What's more, I feel giant Jone is watching me somehow, from above, or through me - it's not quite clear. And although I don't know how I got to this place, and I think I came from somewhere, I ignore all that. I spend some time, and I get my bearings, and I start to make it home. Others come, and things get made, and things get wrecked, and there are friends and there are fights and there is gain and there is loss. And one day when I get to thinking that it feels deep enough to be a place I know, I hear this sound on the wind. A sound which I cannot describe. And I turn around, and everything is changed, I am somewhere empty and unfamiliar, and I am lost again like I was before. And what I can remember of where I just was, it fades so fast but not completely. Until there is just this uneasy feeling that there used to be something else. That, and this feeling of mocking laughter coming from Giant Jone. And this rebuild-reset cycle goes again, and again, and again, and again, and again. And atom by atom, I assemble this idea, some inception, that this is somehow Jone's revenge, a revenge for something indescribably ancient, something that I have lost completely if I ever had it at all.

I wake up, and from my bed I look out the window to the railing outside my window. A black bird alights and it is looking at me. It holds it beak open, but no sound comes out, and then it flies away. And for a moment I think understand something important, but another moment later, that's gone also.
