re - Keyboard Thonks

Cadey[1] wants help learning Colemak.

I don't know of a way to speed up the process, I think learning any new keyboard layout leads to painfully slow typing, until the muscle memory beds in anyway.

I brute forced learning Colemak at the same time as teaching myself to properly touch type. By printing off the keymap and taping it to the bottom of my monitor (at home and at work) and typing painfully slowly (in Colemak, without looking at my fingers) for three to four months.

Stick with it, it _will_ click at some point and you will start to speed up.

That was ~9 years ago, at my first IT job at a local high school. Now I can touch type Colemak faster than I could two finger tap QWERTY then. But my QWERTY typing is much slower and I have to look at the keyboard to context switch.
