Hello. I'm fab. That means "fabulous"! (In reality it means "fat and bearded", but who likes to hear that?) If you want to know my real name, send an email with a good reason why. I don't want my identity scattered all over the internet, so I use this pseudonym.
I'm very interested in the SmolNet/IndieWeb and I like to build up my Gemini capsule and my Gopher hole. I also have a website which is just a proxy to my Gemini content. My gopher hole was the latest addition to the services I provide. It was born on Saturday, 27th of January in the year 2024. So at the time of writing, it's 4 days old :-)
I'm zealous computer geek/nerd. I like to tinker around with my homelab and diverse operating systems like Linux and FreeBSD. I feel especially at home in the terminal and like simple plaintext tools. I always prefer the commandline/CLI or TUI interfaces over GUI applications.
As a hobby programmer my language usage is diverse: rust, python, bash, perl or whatever fits the problem best. I'm not an expert in any of these and I learn while I solve specific problems/needs.
My little homelab is another thing where I try out things and I try to selfhost as much myself as I can. I'm always searching for a minimalist and simple solution, e.g. I don't have a full blown NextCloud or OpenMediaVault instance running. I have a NAS which only exposes SSH/SFTP. This is enough to stream videos, make backups or store git repositories. The only bigger setup I have is a SyncThing instance to sync my documents, VimWiki and config files with the NAS.
I'm in no way an expert or professional. All the things I know I've learned in a self educating and autodidactic way and 'just for fun' or to solve a specific need.
I'm a neurotic smoker since I'm 15 years old. I started before smoking became completely "political incorrect". And I drink a lot of coffee. But I don't drink alcohol or smoke weed or things like that.
