Collaborations

Composing and recording your own music can be a lonely endeavor. The home studio allows anyone to make their own album without involving anyone else. That's undoubtedly why we see a whole lot of one-man projects that try to sound like a full band, successfully or not.

My next album will be a collaboration. I'll do the things I do best, compose and arrange, play keyboards and do the final mixing, and let a few other musicians contribute their parts on instruments I can't play. Drum programming is possible but tends to sound stiff. You can't really cheat your way to the idiomatic playing of any instrument.

Today it's five years since I played a release concert for the album Going Dark with two guest musicians who don't appear on the album. Some of it can be heard on my deeply hidden homepage. Start here and see if you manage to find it.
