About a year and a half ago, I published an entry¹ about the Waking Up Meditation App. I gave it lots of praise for the course content and I continue to believe that it's the best collection of meditation-related content online. I also strongly appreciate Sam Harris' heterodoxy in his decision of which content to include in the course.
Although I praised the course content, I criticized the app/website. It's bloated, contains trackers/analytics, and requires the user to identify themself to gain access. When I made that entry over a year and a half ago, there was a torrent containing the Introductory Course, but whoever created it did a very poor job. The mp3 files had strange problems and it was missing almost all the course content. Since 2021, some content has also been added to the course.
Luckily someone made a new torrent² of the Waking Up app content and it's very well made. It contains almost all the course content and each of the ~1000 audios has a title, description, track number, and artwork. Clearly, whoever made it put a lot of time and effort into it.
I think Sam Harris and all those who produced the course content definitely deserve to be paid for their work and that you should make a donation if you're able to, but I'm glad there's a torrent of it now. Having listened to some of the content myself, frankly I think it's just too important to be locked behind a bloated surveillance app forever.
