The three-step cycle of expertise

Nader K. Rad, 2020-07-29

I believe each person needs this three-step cycle to become a real expert in any subject:

1. Learn (e.g., read books).

2. Watch people who are doing it.

3. Try it yourself (on a small scale).

So, for example, to become an outstanding project manager, you need to start learning what the job is. Then you look at project managers around you to see how they are (or are not) doing their work based on what you've learned. Then, you take on a small responsibility for something, or invent your own tiny project, and try it yourself. Then you use your new experience to decide what's the best thing to learn next.

I have to come up with a fancy name for this!
