Re: Design vs Evolution


Ploum wrote a good response to my Design vs Evolution post and made me realize that a clarification is in order.


What I meant to say in my original post is that Linux was coming about during a time when developers could more easily collaborate than they could in the years prior. It did sound like I was comparing today's advancements in communication with 30 year old tech, which wasn't my intention and I agree would be a pretty baffling stance to take.


Ploum's response also gave me some interesting ideas to think about that I hadn't considered. We (or at least I) take for granted certain tools at our disposal like git and bug trackers. To think about everything that was able to get done without them is pretty humbling and helps you realize just how enabling these tools are.


Ploum also recommends the book "Rebel Code" by Glynn Moody. I appreciate the recommendation and will definitely be looking into it!
