Midnight Pub

the library

~bean

haven't used the public library in a longggg time, not since i was in middle school at the very least. i used to be a voracious reader as a child, but reading gave way to screen time and i'm trying to read more/replace screen time with reading time. i went in to renew my card today and it was so old it wasn't even in their system unfortunately, and i almost didn't get a new one because my ID was expired but they accepted my student ID as well since it had a photo. thank god for that.

anyway, i have libby downloaded and my account is working so i'm excited to start reading again <3

There is no library where I live ;-( so I do the bulk of my reading on a screen. I was considering getting an ereader because the eink devices are so much easier on the eyes, but in my experience they are awful for reading pdfs, which is how most of the books I like to read are available.

I used to love going to the university library and I would spend hours there looking through the available books, I would find my way to a table carrying a big stack of books which I already had on my hard drive, but I LOVED the whole experience of sitting there with actual books, and an open notebook, surrounded by other people studying in complete silence.

There was a library in the city very close to where I used to live but it had some beeping and other kinds of sounds in the background which were a bit too soothing and I always ended up falling asleep.

Ah, libraries.

Ohhh I fucken LOVE libraries. My local one used to be awesome, but about ten years ago they reduced it down to about half its size to make more room for a damn sports gear store. It was honestly so depressing. They had so many books, and now it's mostly computers, though books still remain.

Libraries are the among the best places on earth: lots of book, and reading is free (almost). Anyone can stay there without paying anything (sorry midnight pub^^).

If had to buy all the books I read I wouldn't have much money left... Actually, I think I will try to calculate that !

I've bought a second hand e-reader, and use libgen to download books, which is also a good way to read a lot for free. Plus some books are not available at the library.

But paper books are much more enjoyable :) Plus human contact and so on...

I used to read all the time, but gave it up for some reason years back. Only got back into it a few weeks ago when I picked up a bunch of old Sound On Sound magazines for cheap online. Not exactly classic literature, but it's good fun.
