please note that this post was fueled by a scenecore ADHD playlist on youtube at midnight. that's how you know it's authentic.

please, please let the link work this time.

this is an infodump/special interest rant post, I am tired, it will not be formatted well. read at your own risk.

in recent years I've found myself with an increasing hatred for the modern tech industry. I became fascinated by Linux and then began to realize just how fucked our reliance on big companies was. I've always been somewhat of a going-against-the-grain kinda girl (I actively dislike popular music. I stick to indie games mostly.) but with tech, it really goes up to another level. I began taking active strides to distance myself from companies like Google and Windows, doing things like moving to Linux and trying various browsers before settling on and forever rooting for Firefox. okay, I'm not fully on Linux. sue me. my daily driver is Windows, at least until I can make the needed fixes and upgrades to this PC and then I might move it to Linux. the main limiting factor is gaming, which I do a LOT of (no one needs to know the ungodly thousands of hours I have in cookie clicker).

I've been trying (mostly in vain) to get my family and friends to move their online lives to Linux, or at the very least please just PLEASE don't use Chrome or Safari. Alas, it is no use. some of my family members are scared of. of the command line. so it's probably a stretch to have them use linux. I think it's fair to say that I have a special interest in digital security and open-source-software.

on that note, can we talk about how cool donation-based open-source software is? take Riseup. cool-ass nonprofit that makes a free vpn and doesn't need to track you. how? the users! people love the software, people pay the devs. I love it. also, THE INTERNET ARCHIVE IS SO COOL. I think it's my favorite thing on the https web. on that train of thought, piracy is cool! and you should do it! both for digital preservation and also fuck big companies! just don't pirate from small independent businesses. I will write more about piracy in another rant. I'm too tired. my thighs hurt from this chair and my fingers are literally getting sore from use. god, my back hurts.

my distro of choice? still deciding. for now, I like Mint with Gnome desktop.

my song recommendation for this post is the playlist above. I'm halfway through and it still slaps!!

It is very difficult to convince people to use something if you don't use it yourself 100% of the time... Gaming in linux has improved, at least that's what I heard, I don't play...

Woow riseup is very cool!

That's not very important... My advice: make a list of the software that you will use, and see in what distros it is available:
