As Gemtextʼs stylization capabilities are limited, ordinary separators become important again. Hereʼs a selection of styles in comparison.
Depending on the client, the font family, and font size used, the separator might look quite differently. It can be much more pronounced (•) or is barely differentiable (~ vs. – or multiple spaces). This applies especially to the differences in TUI and GUI clients. Itʼs best to check this page in different clients to see the difference.
Note: Lines starting with an ISO date (i.e. YYYY-MM-DD) can create a simple feed to which Gemini clients can subscribe to.
For GUI clients, the style with a single space separator between date and title seems to be most beneficial style, as some clients highlight the unread title in bold while leaving the date as-is. But if there are additional separators in-between, those will be considered part of the title and bolded as well. The width of the date will be different for different dates rendered in proportional fonts, which means the separators won’t align properly and are just a visual distraction.
TUI clients, however, benefit from a separator, because the dates line up perfectly and the clients might not style the dates in Gemlog indexes at all.

Because sometimes just the titles won’t give enough context, excerpts can fix that. While the title-only listing is very minimalistic, an excerpt adds meaning to ambiguous titles, so these can stay shorter for better readability.

Note: All of them can be subscribed to by clients, as they look for `YYYY-MM-DD ` links. But the excerpt of the latter two alternatives wonʼt show up in feed views.
