👻 Deep Ecology

Basic Principles Of Deep Ecology

It's always nice to find that one's personal philosophy has a name and is apparently shared by others. For me the starting point is to hold the proliferation of Life as being the greatest good, and the conclusions reached are very similar to those (apparently) of this deep ecology idea.

In my own conception I put much more emphasis on diversity. If the proliferation of Life is held to be the greatest good, then diversity is Life's most important tool. By filling every niche the odds of long term survival are maximized. Competition is also important as being the driver of change, and therefore being the mechanism of achieving diversity. But once competition gives out to monoculture it turns into a weakness, and must be undercut in some fashion.
