Gemini is a lighter, more focused and more human-scaled corner of the Internet. It's different from the World Wide Web that you are accustomed to in several ways.

📃️ Focused on text

Gemini pages are text-based. There are no ads, pop-ups, auto-playing videos or flashy color schemes. Pages can link to other types of content like images, audio, etc. which are loaded only when you explicitly follow a link. That makes for a distraction free reading experience with few interactions.

🔒️ Privacy respecting

There are no cookies on Gemini. Authors cannot track you as you browse from site to site, or capsule as they are called on Gemini. Loading of each page is protected with TLS. That is the same technology powering HTTPS sites on the World Wide Web. This means that third parties don't get to see which pages you visit, nor inject content into them. This is one more reason why ads are largely absent from Geminispace.

😏️ Personal

Since there are no ads, and interactivity is limited, Gemini is not interesting to large companies and brands. Instead, it's populated by human beings, sharing their own thoughts, stories and experiences. Blogs, or gemlogs how they are called, are popular format on Gemini. There are also capsules with fictional writing and even shared role-playing.
