New Link Colors on This Website

2023-06-20 19:30:22Z (last updated 2023-10-16 08:55:03Z)

I picked some new colors for links, and you should be able to see the link colors in effect already (unless you use light mode).

Originally, they were from whatever Firefox (actually: LibreWolf) had with "color-scheme: dark" as the CSS. I picked the colors without thought and moved on.

I changed it because I was slightly confused for a bit on whether links were visited or not, and another person was similar about it.

Now, for the process of picking colors:

How I picked the link colors

The link colors initially was inspired from Seirdy's website, choosing some colors roughly matching how it is on their website.

Then after lots of experimentation and checking with simulating tools (to simulate color spaces), I chose a color combination that meet the following criteria:

Having emphasis on non-visited links, and less so on visited links

At least somewhat distinguishable to the colorblind (though the different might be tiny, at least in the simulated color spaces i used in Firefox and macOS color filters)

Basic readability (like not having black on black or something like that)

Finding these colors took... almost an hour (of recorded video), for some reason. I have no idea how I managed to take that long, but whatever.

Anyways, please send feedback if you have any. Like any at all. Including things other than links.

Note for Gemini: This change only applies to the HTML page, styling on Gemini by the author is not possible.
