KDE Connect Over WireGuard

2023-06-16 15:11:52Z (last updated 2023-10-16 08:55:03Z)

I'll assume you use KDE Connect and that you also use your WireGuard VPN pretty much all of the time.

KDE Connect

WireGuard

You try to connect in KDE Connect, but it doesn't work. So now what?

Easy: Just add your WireGuard VPN IP address to your phone's KDE Connect. That way, KDE Connect will try to connect through the specified IP address, and assuming you set it up correctly, things will work.

Adding an IP address

Assuming now you have no clue what I'm talking about, here are the steps to adding an IP address in KDE Connect on your phone:

On the sidebar, enter the "Pair new devices" section (?)

(Maybe Android only) Tap the 3 dots icon

Tap on "Add devices by IP"

Click the add/plus button

Enter the WireGuard IP address for your computer (laptop, desktop, whatever)

And yes, it was based on the following blog post:

GSConnect (KDE Connect), WireGuard, and Debian 12 Bookworm
