RE: Is This Aggregator Idea Good?

ew0k describes ‘Shannon’ here

One of the huge problems with gemini is that Gus and CAPCOM are centralized, and Shannon partially solves that, which is great.

I do like the idea of subscribing to some other people and publishing links to their posts automatically like this (as long as I’m not legally culpable for their BS) but when I add Joanne I don’t also want to add Bill. I want to add just Joanne.

Then there should be a way to browse around in Shannonspace. With a good Shannon client, maybe I wouldn’t even need to echo Joanne, I would just have a link to her feed.

It’d be similar to the blogroll on side of some blogs. A Shannon client could be set to show me those I follow, or those I follow and the ones they follow, or even three layers deep.

This has a problem that new feeds can’t easily get discovered.

This is the blessing and the bane of CAPCOM; when CAPCOM was cool it was like a little mailing list almost. Anyone could get added there and if someone wrote something, someone else would reply and since it showed up in CAPCOM, that’s how it got seen. On Shannon it’s not so easy.

That’s also what attracted me to Shannon — by sorting out all the chaff, each person’s view of it could become a bit like Fedi, a little more intimate, a little more curated. I only have to follow the people I like. On the other hand most of the time my Fedi feed is pretty quiet because I just haven’t found that many people to follow yet.
