Re: Current direction

gerikson mentions a friend of mine who has left Gemini.

Which is fine, people are allowed to leave and his reasons make perfect sense; instead of fiddling with his own scripts he just wants to to be on a third party blogging platform. (Dreamwidth. Hey, they could add a Gemini reading mode!)

I took a few months off from Gemini last spring but no-one noticed since my bihosted blog posts still went up here without missing a beat.

I have a similar relationship to Atom. It’s just another format. Some might prefer it and that’s fine; I try to have as good of an Atom feed I can (for those who read my blog from an RSS reading app) and as good of a Gem capsule I can, but, it’s all scripts working from the markdown original.

There’s as little point to me “quitting” Gemini as it would be “quitting” having an Atom feed up. I’d do it only if I’d want to truly distance myself from it or boycott it, if it got overrun by nazis for example, or a huge unfixable security hole was found.

Of course, now the Antenna community has rekindled my interest and increased my amount of gem-only reply posts and emails. (Not too many these last few weeks since I am sick and resting and trying to catch up at my day job.)
