Catching Up on the Gemlog

Sorry I haven't really been keeping up with my Gemlog lately. Life's been complicated. And the time I would have spent with Gemini, I've been digging into IndieWeb and working on a minimalist website template for Eleventy that I'm calling Indie's Eleven.

IndieWeb is all about setting up your own web presence...

instead of setting up on silos like Twitter and Facebook.

Eleventy (11ty) is a static site generator...

that I've started using for parts of my website.

Indie's Eleven is a work in progress...

meant to be a starting point for a low-bandwidth, high-responsivity website using Eleventy.

Eventually I want to auto-generate Gemini capsules along with the corresponding websites, like I do with my Les Miserables commentary. Up to now I've been copy-pasting and hand-editing everything else, which is great for crafting to the format's strengths, but means a bunch of extra steps to actually get pages onto both the web and Gemini.

I finally got around to writing a script to scrape my own posts and generate either Markdown with the Indie's Eleven front matter, or Gemtext with the GemlogInPlace structure, which while it isn't fully automated, speeds up the process drastically.

Grab a page and write it to Markdown or Gemtext

GemlogInPlace (generates next/previous, tag links, etc)

So here are some of the recent posts I've imported since my last regular Gemlog post:
